Topiro
Paradeisos?
Topiro, Topeiros, stood on a hill east of the Nestos, almost ringed by the river, though the map shows no river here. It seems to have become a Roman colony under Trajan and minted coins from Antoninus to Geta, yet the map gives it no picture. In 549 Slav raiders took it, as Procopius tells, and Justinian rebuilt its walls; by the 6th century it was also called Rhousion. Near today's Paradeisos a portrait of Agrippina the Younger, rock-cut Roman tombs and an early Christian basilica have been found.
