Tolosocorio

? ca. 1,5 km südöstl. von Gökpınar

Tolosocorio, the Tolastochora of the geographer Ptolemy, lay in the south of the lands of the Tolistobogii, a Galatian tribe, on a late Roman road running diagonally across northern Lycaonia. Its name is a puzzle. The first part is usually taken as Celtic, like the tribe's own name, and the second as the Greek chora, a place, yet no other name is built that way; it may be an older Celtic name containing the word for army, bent by people who did not understand Celtic. The site is probably a field of ruins near Gökpınar, with an ancient cemetery and, across the stream, rock-cut chambers linked by a labyrinth.
