Phrygia

Listen to the story

Phrygia, an ancient region of inland Asia Minor in what is now Turkey, is spelled out across the land in the red letters the map reserves for regions. One small quirk shows how carefully the copyist worked: the final I of the name drops down onto the road from Synnada, where a gap was left for it in the middle of the station names lettered along that stretch.
