Road station
Aspasi
Aspasi is known only from this map and from the Ravenna list, which writes Aspas, and both seem to draw on a shared source. The Roman register of routes and the Bordeaux pilgrim name other stops at this point, Parnassus and Aliassum, so the name may be a slip, perhaps for Aliassi, coloured by the name of the next station, Aspona. On this road the mapmaker seems to have entered a written list of stations the wrong way round, which put the place behind Nitazo. It is sought in or near Afşar, south of Ankara, where milestones have been found, one from the time of the emperor Gordian.
