Asine

Skoutari?

Asine is the Messenian Asine, a town on a steep headland on the Messenian Gulf, usually placed at Koroni in Greece, though the site is not entirely certain. Its people were Dryopes, driven out of the older Asine in the Argolid by Argos and resettled here by Sparta; even in Pausanias' day they were proud of their Dryopian name and sanctuaries. In the Peloponnesian War the town supplied timber and served as a station for ships. Deserted in the Middle Ages, the site was resettled from nearby Korone and, as Koron, became a much-disputed stronghold of the Morea.
