Assures

Zanfour

Assures is Assuras, the Colonia Iulia Assuras, whose impressive ruins lie at Henchir Zanfour in Tunisia, not far from the river Bagradas. The Roman writer Pliny lists it among the towns of Roman citizens, and bishops of Assuras are recorded from 258 onwards. On the map the copyist's pen had almost run dry: the first strokes of the capital A, and the figure ten after the name, are barely visible.
