Asopos
Plytra · Πλύτρα
Asopos, at Plytra in Greece, was a small harbour town on the Laconian coast of the Parnon peninsula, its site fixed by dedications found there. It probably took its name from a stream that met the sea there, and in Roman times it replaced the older town of Cyparissia, whose citadel held a shrine of Athena Cyparissia. Pausanias saw a temple of the Roman emperors and, in the gymnasium, enormous bones that were honoured there, far too big for an ordinary man, yet human. On the map it should lie inside the Laconian Gulf, across from Gythium.
