Road station

Mizago

Umgebung von Ayaş, s. Kommentar

Mizago is a muddled Mnizos, already garbled in the source the map shares with the Ravenna list. It was a station, later a small town, on the Pilgrims' Road west of Ancyra. On 4 February 364 the emperor Jovian issued a law here, less than two weeks before he died at Dadastana, and on 27 July 398 Arcadius issued several laws here. It was a bishop's seat from 451 into the 12th century. The site is sought near Ayaş, or at Çağa, where excavations since 2003 have uncovered a Roman bath building.
