Missua

Sidi-Daoud

Missua is where this road on the map comes to an end: twelve Roman miles beyond Clipeis, no further stretch leads on. The town lay on the north-west of the Cape Bon peninsula in Tunisia, at Sidi Daoud, where extensive ruins survive, and ships crossed from here to Lilybaeum and Sicily. Its name seems to come from a Phoenician root meaning to break out stone, pointing to the nearby quarries of El Haouaria. A bishop of the town is first named in 484, another in 525.
