Road station

Tonea

Boğazkale ?

Tonea was a station on the road from Tavium to Amasia, and one suggestion places it at Boğazkale, among the ruins of Hattusa, the old Hittite capital. In Roman times small villages dotted the area, a cemetery lay in the lower town, a small fort, probably of the later empire, stood on the citadel hill, and the Hittite ruins served as quarries. The map's figures on this road are no help in locating it: its seventy-three miles in all fall far short of the real distance. The Ravenna list writes Thonea.
