Sermusa

Sermusa is usually identified with Sermouga, which the geographer Ptolemy lists among the inland towns of Galatian Pontus; the Ravenna list may know it as Bermissa. Where it lay is unclear. One candidate is Kadışehir, where ancient inscriptions and column fragments have been found, though the road would then have made an odd detour. Another is Bünyan, once called Sarımsaklı, chosen for the sound of its name; there the remains of a monastery were seen, probably built in early Christian times over a pagan sanctuary. That suggestion, too, is treated with caution.
