Road station
Stabulum
Listen to the story
Stabulum is Latin for a stable, here a place to change horses, probably with a rest house, on the road from Tavium by way of Zela to Neocaesarea. It seems to have lain on the right bank of the Iris, the Yeşilırmak, between Pazar and Yeşilyurt; a little upstream, at Çerçi, parts of a Roman bridge can still be seen. The map has a faulty twin of this station, Ad Stabulum, on a road drawn below it: the mapmaker apparently merged two sources for the same route and drew it twice.
