Road station

Armaza

? Gemerek ?

Armaza appears in this form only here; the Roman register of routes calls it Armaxa, which may be a later version reshaped to sound like the Greek word for a wagon, hamaxa, so the map may preserve the older name. The station lay in Cappadocia on the road from Caesarea to Sebastia, where a side road branched off towards Tavium, and it is probably the Seljuk station of Ermeksu. It is usually placed at Gemerek, and close by rises the mound of Yeniçubuk, settled as early as the 3rd millennium BC.
