The map sets Ariolica on the road between Brescia and Verona but draws neither Lake Garda nor the Mincio, the river that leaves the lake right here at Peschiera. Inscriptions of the town's guild of boatmen show how much its life depended on that water. A milestone found in Peschiera counts nineteen Roman miles, about twenty-eight kilometres, from Verona, while the map gives only thirteen.
