Arrabone

Rába

Listen to the story

Arrabone marks where the road from Sabaria, today Szombathely, crossed the river Arrabo, the Rába, probably at Körmend near the mouth of the Pinka. But there was no town at that crossing: the city of Arrabona, today Győr, stood where the Rába meets the Danube, on the road drawn above. So the map's names Arrabone and Arrabo, the river, may have been swapped, though no one can tell whether a copyist did it.
