Arusena

Eining

Arvsena is Abusina, the fort at Eining in Bavaria, where the Abens flows into the Danube; the map has miscopied the name, which lives on in the river Abens, still called Abunsna in a document of 750. From about 79 a cohort fort guarded a crossing of the Danube here. During the Marcomannic Wars, between 172 and 179, the Third Italian Legion camped here for a while, and around 300 the fort was rebuilt smaller, with the villagers moving inside its walls. A late Roman list of garrisons still names a Third Cohort of Britons at Abusina.
