Vetonianis

Pfünz

Vetonianis lies at Pfünz near Eichstätt in Bavaria, where a Roman fort of about one hundred and forty-five by one hundred and eighty metres has been excavated. Its garrison was the First Cohort of the Breuci, a people from Pannonia, at one time commanded by an officer from a cavalry regiment. The name probably comes from a Celtic man called Vetonius, perhaps with inns understood, and another station on the map bears it too. On the map the next stretch, to Germanicum, has no marked start.
