Road station
Vetonina
Zirl oder Innsbruck wenn Veldidena
Listen to the story
Vetonina is probably Veldidena, the Roman station at Wilten, now part of Innsbruck, where around 370 AD late Roman granaries were walled in to form a small fort. The map's name may be a simple slip: a station called Vetonianae, in reality in the Altmühl valley more than a hundred kilometres away, sits only a few centimetres off on the parchment. Older research preferred Zirl, whose position fits the map's distances better.
