Vetona

Bettona

Listen to the story

Vetona is Vettona, now Bettona, an Umbrian town on a steep rock high above the plain, near where the Chiascio flows into the Tiber. Although it lies off the road itself, the route lists treat it as a station between Todi and Perugia. Stretches of its walls of squared stone still stand, and even the name of its people had to be rescued: the manuscripts of the Roman writer Pliny garble it, and only inscriptions gave back the right form.
