Vepiteno

Sterzing?

Listen to the story

Vepiteno is Vipitenum, Vipiteno in Italian and Sterzing in German, at the foot of the Brenner in South Tyrol, where the Roman name has never quite disappeared. It was a staging post on the road over the Brenner to Augsburg, in the land of the Raeti that Drusus conquered, and a Roman tombstone is still walled into the church of Sterzing. On the map the distance to the next station is written with a dot in the middle, thirty, dot, five.
