Arubio

Măcin

Arubio is Măcin in the Dobruja, near the last great bend of the Danube; its name suggests a fort founded by Celts. A late Roman list of garrisons stations a unit of armoured cavalry there, and in Byzantine times the town was called Bitzine, which became the later Večin. A milestone found at Măcin counts four miles from Arubio itself. The Roman register of routes adds a station the map leaves out, Dinogetia, between here and Noviodunum, and on the map the start of that stretch is not marked.
