Road station

Arulis

Arulis lay on the Euphrates, on the road from Zeugma up to Samosata, twenty-four Roman miles, about thirty-five kilometres, above Zeugma, and the same distance again from Ad Pontem Singe. The geographer Ptolemy knew it as Arudis, and a Roman register of routes puts a station called Abarara at almost the same spot. Later research links it with Urima, also called Antioch on the Euphrates. One suggestion places it at Rum Kale; at Enesch near by, ancient quarries carry Latin inscriptions.
