Europus

Listen to the story

Europus is the name scholars give to a pair of towers that the map draws without any label at all. The town is usually placed at the ruins of Jerablus in Syria. Ancient writers such as the historian Polybius and the geographer Ptolemy call it Europus, while others knew it as Oropus. The map sets it sixteen Roman miles from Ceciliana and twenty-four from Zeugma, and a road branched off here towards Hierapolis.
