Road station
Arialbinum
(road station in Basel area) (Barrington) · Burgfeldden bei Basel (Miller)
Arialbinvm is the map's second entry for the same road station near Basel, this time spelled with a single n, on the road leading into Augusta Raurica. The two entries, on two roads drawn one above the other, must describe one and the same place, probably at Burgfelden or Binningen near Basel. Some manuscripts of the Roman register of routes read the name Artalbinnum, and older research linked that form with the Hardt, the forest along the Rhine. The list of places compiled in Ravenna seems to garble it into Albisi. Basel itself appears under its own name, Basilia, only from the reign of Valentinian.
