Argentovaria
Biesheim-Kunheim (Barrington) · Horburg bei Kolmar (Miller)
Argentovaria was a town on the Rhine road from Augst to Strasbourg, where in 378 the emperor Gratian won a great victory over the Alamanni. The Greek geographer Ptolemy counts it among the towns of the Rauraci, and a late Roman list of the cities of Gaul knows it as a fort, the Castrum Argentariense. For a long time it was placed at Horburg near Colmar, where a Roman fort with walls two metres thick was excavated; a modern atlas now prefers Biesheim and Kunheim.
