Argantomago
Argenton-St-Marcel
Argantomago is Argenton-sur-Creuse, a town of the Bituriges Cubi where two roads from Bordeaux to Bourges joined. Four routes meet here on the map, yet the town has no symbol, a slip that seems to go back to the mapmaker rather than to a copyist. A late Roman list of garrisons records an arms factory here, making weapons of every kind. The historian Gregory of Tours calls the place a village, and Frankish annals under the year 764 a fortress. Several of the map's figures around it are too small or missing.
