Road station

Comaralis

Comaralis stands on the map as a station on the road from Mazaca Caesarea to Sebasteia, and it may have lain there, near the Ottoman caravanserai of Tatlıcak Han, probably built over a larger older complex. One suggestion, though, identifies it with Karnalis, a town of Lesser Armenia in Ptolemy, perhaps at Viranşehir. In that case the station belonged on a direct road from Comana over the Antitaurus to Sebasteia, which the map does not show; that line may have been lost in copying, leaving the name stranded on the road above. The identification, however, requires altering the name and has met with doubt.
