Comassa
Dışkapı, ehem. Kemis? Hafik ?
Comassa is the Kamisa of the Greek geographer Strabo, an old fortress, already pulled down in his day, in a district with salt mines that Pompey reorganised as part of Pontus. It is usually placed at Dışkapı, once called Kemis, on the upper Halys, where wall remains and a pre-Roman staircase cut into the rock crown a prominent hill and many reused ancient stones are built into the village. The map's twenty-three miles from Sebastia were probably miscopied from twenty-seven, the figure in the Roman register of routes, which fits the real distance well.
