Speluncis

? Karawansarei nahe Eski Kale, Koyulhisar

Speluncis is Latin for 'at the caves', a name recorded for this spot only here, and it points to the time of Roman presence in the region from the 1st century BC. The station lay on the road from Comana Pontica to Nicopolis, perhaps at the caravanserai near Eski Kale by Koyulhisar in Turkey, and remains of an old bridge lie east of Koyulhisar. One suggestion finds the place in Ptolemy's Sabalia, read as a garbled Spelaia, the Greek word for caves; others think Sabalia is a native Cappadocian name. The map gives no figure for the stretch on to Mesorome.
