Matuasco

? Mesudiye, ehem. Melet Hamidiye

Matuasco, a name known only from this map, lay on the road from Polemonion to Nicopolis and is now usually placed at Mesudiye, whose older names, Melet Hamidiye and the Greek Meletios, come from the river Melet Irmak, the ancient Melanthios; one suggestion sees the map's name as a garbled form of the same name. Older research put the station further south, at Modasun on the Lycus, because the names sound alike, but the map's distances do not fit. Finds at Mesudiye run from the Copper Age to Roman times, though treasure hunters have destroyed much.
