Matilone
Leiden (Barrington) · Rhynenburg (Miller)
Matilone is Matilo, a Roman fort on the Old Rhine in the Netherlands, near Koudekerk aan den Rijn just east of Leiden, on the road from Lugdunum at the mouth of the Rhine up to Nijmegen. The list of places compiled in Ravenna names it as Matellio, and perhaps a second time, garbled, as Pocellis. Older research argued over whether it lay at Koudekerk itself, across the river from it, or at Rhijnenburg. It belonged to the chain of small forts that guarded the Rhine frontier.
