Materno, the station of Maternum on the road from Tuscania to Saturnia, is one of the map's unsolved puzzles. It has been placed at Farnese, at Valentano, at Ischia di Castro, and on a hill near Piansano where many votive offerings came to light, although there the distances do not fit. A spot called Maderno near the river Fiora may still echo the old name. Only this map and the list of places compiled in Ravenna know it.
