Marinianis

Donji Miholjac

Listen to the story

Marinianis, at Donji Miholjac in Croatia, stood on the border between Upper and Lower Pannonia, and here the pilgrim from Bordeaux, who spent a night at the station, notes the entry into Upper Pannonia. The Greek geographer Ptolemy calls it Magniana, and a late Roman list of garrisons places a cohort here. The map sets Marinianis ten Roman miles from Bolentium and nine from Seronis; a modern atlas puts Marinianis and Seronis in the opposite order to the map.
