Road station
Marcomagus
Nettersheim-Marmagen
Marcomagus lies at Marmagen near Nettersheim in the Eifel in Germany, on the road from Cologne to Trier. Older research described a commanding site with an enclosure of bank and ditch, a square of about three hundred and seventy-five metres a side, where Roman burial urns and coins were found. The station may continue a village in the Urft valley near Nettersheim that was abandoned in the later third century. The Roman register of routes lists the same stations between here and Trier as the map, only in reverse order. Older scholars once confused Marcomagus with Marcodurum, today Düren.
