Pontus

Listen to the story

Pontici names the Pontians, the people of Pontus, a land on the Black Sea coast of Asia Minor whose name comes from the Greek word for the sea. The map stretches their name along the shore, beginning at Sinope, today Sinop in Turkey, and running past Missos as far as Polemonium, so that the lettering itself traces a whole stretch of coast.
