Piti

Listen to the story

Piti is usually read as the Gepids, a Germanic people whom the historian Jordanes counted as kin of the Goths. In the second century they still lived by the Vistula, and probably in the middle or late third century they pushed south into the middle Tisza region. Written sources mention them only from the fourth century on, so the entry is thought to belong to a late antique revision of the map. After the Hunnic empire collapsed they settled in Transylvania, and Dacia itself came to be known as Gepidia.
