Medeia

Ruinen am W. Medile (Miller) · Abu Mereir (Barrington)

Medeia is how the printed edition of 1598 read this name, but a tear in the parchment now leaves only its last letters, and there is no knowing whether the name was still legible then or merely guessed. The edition of 1753 already gave only the ending. One suggestion identifies the station with Marah in western Sinai, where, in the Book of Exodus, Moses made the bitter water drinkable; late antique pilgrims such as Egeria passed it on their way from Clysma to Mount Sinai. The tear also hides the start of the next stretch.
