Mediolano

Pontcharra-sur-Turdine?

Near Pontcharra-sur-Turdine, probably at the hamlet of Miolan, whose name seems to echo the ancient one, lay the Mediolano of the map, on the road from Lyon to Roanne. Yet the map's figures on either side, towards Roanne and towards Feurs, do not fit together, and older research tried many answers: L'Arbresle, Meys, or the idea that the name had slipped out of place on the map. The fourteen towards Feurs is best seen on an old photograph of the map. Like Milan, the place bears a Celtic name usually explained as the middle of the plain.
