Megalasso
?
Megalasso is the Megalossos of the geographer Ptolemy, the last of his inland towns of Pontus, and probably also the Dagalasso of the Roman register of routes, since in Greek letters Meg could turn into Dag in copying. The figures do not quite agree, though: the register counts twenty-four miles to Nicopolis, while the map, by way of Mesorome, gives thirty-five, and it has been suggested that the two sources follow different roads, a summer and a winter route. The site is uncertain; proposals include Ekinözü, the village of Keçeyurdu, and a peak on a short but very high mountain crossing towards Nicopolis.
