Road station
Tetra
Listen to the story
Tetra looks like the stump of a longer name, and it has usually been read as Tetrapyrgia, 'four towers', a town that the geographer Ptolemy places in the district of Garsauritis. But that was a common name, and a Tetrapyrgia appears again on the map a little lower down to the right, so the short form may be a mistake made in a crowded, confusing corner of the map. The missing distance figure for the last stretch to Mazaca Caesarea points the same way. The site is uncertain; one older idea places the station beside the salt marsh near Caesarea.
