Tetrapyrgia

? Kemer Yayla · Kemeryayla

Tetrapyrgia means four towers in Greek, a popular place name, but this one is known only from the map and the Ravenna list. It probably lay at Kemer Yayla, in a basin high in the Taurus on an old route from Pompeiopolis towards Lycaonia. Around a spring lie the outlines of a hundred to a hundred and fifty houses with wide lanes and traces of early Byzantine churches, and one of the four watchtowers that gave the name still stands on a hill. The settlement probably fell to the Arab invasions. On the map a short red stroke towards Seleucia breaks off, perhaps a slip noticed while drawing.
