City
Pompeiopolis
Viranşehir
Listen to the story
Pompeiopolis is drawn here on a route inland, yet it was really a coastal city in Cilicia, and the copyist has entered it three times: once here with a town picture, once just above without one, and again as the next station under its older name, Soloe. The name means the city of Pompey, who refounded old Soloi. Its ruins lie at Viranşehir in Turkey. Some scholars think this entry stands in for Lamus, a coastal village at the mouth of a river of the same name, but the town drawing suits the far more important city better.
