Thacia

Bordj Messaoudi

Listen to the story

Thacia, whose ruins lie by the village of Bordj Messaoudi in Tunisia, appears as Thasia in the Greek geographer Ptolemy and as Catia in the list of places compiled in Ravenna. It was a bishop's seat for centuries: its bishops are recorded in 348, 393, 525 and 649 AD, by then under the name Tacia Montana, Tacia in the hills. The map sets it seven Roman miles from Mubsi and seven from a station whose name is lost.
