Serapeum
Serapeum sits in the eastern Nile Delta on the map, but where it lay on the ground is disputed. It is drawn as a small house, read as a temple, standing on its own with no road leading to it. The name marks a sanctuary of Serapis, the god who joined Osiris with the sacred Apis bull, and the Greeks applied it to many Osiris shrines across Egypt. One identification places it at a station on the Isthmus of Suez, beside the canal to the Red Sea, yet that lies outside the Delta. Another candidate is the great temple at Athribis, home of an ancient bull god called the great black one.
