Sena Galli

Senigallia

Listen to the story

Sena Galli, Sena of the Gauls, now Senigallia, was an early Roman colony on the Adriatic, founded after the defeat of the Celtic Senones and named after them. In 207 BC the Roman army gathered here before the battle of the Metaurus, in which Hannibal's brother Hasdrubal fell, and in 551 AD the Byzantines used the port as a naval base against the Ostrogoths.
