Segusterone

Sisteron

Segusterone is Sisteron, where the Buëch flows into the Durance, on the busy road from Arles over the Montgenèvre pass to Turin. At first a village of the Vocontii, it became a city in its own right after the reforms of Diocletian and later a bishopric; the modern name grew directly out of the ancient one. On the way to Saint-Geniez a famous inscription of Claudius Postumus Dardanus is carved into the rock. The silver cups from Vicarello list the station too, and they show that the map's figure back to Alaunio is too small.
