Segusione

Susa

Segvsione is Segusio, today Susa in Italy, the capital of the Alpine kingdom of Cottius, where the roads over the Mont Cenis and the Mont Genèvre met. Here King Cottius set up an arch in honour of Augustus in 8 BC, which still stands, its inscription listing the Alpine peoples of his realm; his tomb by the town walls has vanished. The pilgrim from Bordeaux noted that at Susa, Italy began. Nero made the town a municipium and the seat of the governor, and in 312 Constantine captured it.
