Putea nigra

Qbeba

Putea Nigra, the black wells, shows the copyist at work in a cramped spot: the map writes niga, with no r, and the final a perches above the g to save space. The road line could have run on beneath the letters, but it would have cut through the downstroke of the g, so an extra kink was drawn instead. A single stretch of road is also drawn here as two. The site is Qbeba in Libya, twenty-six Roman miles from Praetorium.
