Road station
Punicum
Veliko Gradište
Punicum is drawn on the Danube road thirteen Roman miles, about nineteen kilometres, beyond Lederata, but the stretch on to the next station, Cuppae, has no starting mark. The place is Pincum at the mouth of the river Pincus, the Pek, today Veliko Gradište in Serbia, a cavalry post held in late Roman times by Dalmatian and Constantian horsemen; the Byzantine historian Procopius calls it Piknous. So the map's Punicum, which sounds like Punic, is only a slip for Pincum.
