Road station

Quadrata

[on road Neviodunum-Siscia]

Listen to the story

Quadrata is drawn on the road from Emona to Siscia, between Romula and Ad Fines. A Roman register of routes gives nearly the same stages, thirteen and fourteen miles, but brings the road in from the Adriatic coast, and it also knows a Quadrato on a different road, with quite different distances. So older research suspected a mix-up in the map's model and looked for the station in the Glina valley, perhaps as a fort at a river crossing; others place it at Vojnić or near Zagreb. The name means the four-cornered one.
